How to plant bougainvillea

How to plant bougainvillea

1. Soil: When planting Bougainvillea, you should pay attention to choosing loose and fertile soil. You can mix peat soil, leaf mold, perlite and sand in a ratio of 5:2:1:2 to form a suitable soil, and you can add an appropriate amount of bone meal to make it fertile.

2. Water and fertilizer: When growing bougainvillea, you must do a good job of water and fertilizer management. Increase watering in summer, water twice a day to replenish moisture, keep the soil moist at ordinary times, and fertilize once every two weeks during the growing season, and stop fertilizing in late autumn and winter.

3. Light: To grow the light-loving bougainvillea well, you need to provide it with about 8 to 10 hours of sunlight so that it can receive sufficient sunlight and grow better, making its branches vigorous and full of vitality. It also needs to be lighted and maintained in winter.

Bougainvillea growth habits

Bougainvillea prefers a warm and humid climate and is not cold-resistant. The suitable temperature for its growth is around 15-20℃. It can withstand high temperatures in summer. It needs to be well watered during the growth stage. Sufficient water is conducive to its growth. It is not demanding on the soil and can adapt to many soil types. It likes loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil.

Bougainvillea planting method

1. Soil selection: When planting bougainvillea, the soil can be a mixture of garden soil, leaf mold, and fine sand, with an appropriate amount of bone meal added. There is no need to change the soil within 1 year, and the original soil can be used.

2. Watering method: The water requirement of the triangle plant is relatively large. When the growth rate gradually accelerates, it needs to be watered every day, and water should be sprinkled on the leaves and around frequently to increase the air humidity. Water it twice a day in summer. After the temperature drops in autumn, just keep the soil in the pot moist. Reduce watering in winter and do not water it unless the soil in the pot is dry.

3. Fertilization method: Bougainvillea likes fertilizer. During the growing season, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied once every 10-15 days. Stop fertilizing after it enters the dormant period. During the peak growth and flowering season, general fertilizer can be applied once every 10 days.

4. Light and temperature methods: Bougainvillea likes light. If there is insufficient light, the plant will grow weakly and its flowering will be affected. When the weather is cold, place the Bougainvillea in a bright place, and the daily light time should not be less than 8 hours, otherwise large areas of leaves will fall.

Precautions for cultivating bougainvillea

1. Flower pot selection: It is best to choose a rectangular or oval purple clay pot for caring for bougainvillea. The color should not be too dark. A suitable flower pot can not only make the bougainvillea grow healthily, but also look more pleasing to the eye.

2. Shaping and pruning: Before and after the flowering of Bougainvillea, a large number of fallen leaves and flowers will appear. This is a natural phenomenon that cannot be avoided, but it is necessary to do a good job of cleaning, clean up the fallen leaves in time, and cut off the diseased and withered branches to ensure vigorous flowering.

3. Water and fertilizer requirements: The amount of water and fertilizer is closely related to the temperature. Bougainvillea is not cold-resistant. Once the temperature drops, it will enter a sensitive period. At this time, the water control requirements are more stringent. In autumn and winter, watering should be changed to spraying, and more sun exposure should be given.
