How to grow succulent plants, succulent pictures

1. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: Succulent plants like loose soil. In order for the plants to grow healthily, good air permeability and drainage must be ensured. You can make potting soil by mixing peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 1:1. For plants that are more than two years old, river sand can be added. The three should also be mixed in equal proportions.

2. Light: Succulent plants basically like light, but it does not mean that they can be exposed to the sun all the time. Most succulents have the characteristic of hibernation in high temperatures. If the light is too strong, it will often cause the leaves to lose water, so they need appropriate shade. For some plants that are not afraid of strong sunlight, you can place them in a sunny place.

3. Watering: Succulent plants are relatively drought-resistant. Both the fleshy stems and the fleshy leaves are rich in water, but their roots are relatively weak and not very resistant to waterlogging, so don't water them too much. Usually water after the soil is completely dry, and water thoroughly each time. In this way, the plants will neither suffer from excessive water shortage nor wither due to waterlogging.

4. Fertilization: Most succulents are very resistant to barrenness and do not have a strong demand for fertilizer, so they do not need to be fertilized frequently. Generally, during the growing season of the plant, that is, spring and autumn, it is sufficient to fertilize once a month. Fertilizer should be specially made for succulents, which can replenish nutrients without causing fertilizer damage.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Cutting: Cutting is a commonly used propagation method for succulents. Depending on the species, the location of the cutting is also different. For example, plants in the cactus family are mostly propagated by stem cuttings. Cut a complete section of the stem, wait until the wound is dry, and then insert it into the soil. Some plants with fleshy leaves need to be propagated by leaf cuttings. After cutting the leaves, spread them flat on the surface of slightly moist soil to induce rooting, and then plant them after rooting.

2. Division: For some succulents that tend to grow in groups, division is also a good choice. Usually, after the plant has grown sub-plants, it is cut and planted separately. Some succulents require certain stimulation to grow into sub-plants. You can promote the growth of side buds by beheading them, and then separate and plant them after they grow up.

3. Pest and disease control

Succulents themselves have strong disease resistance, but it is difficult for them to survive the summer. Be sure to pay attention to regulating temperature, reduce watering, and increase ventilation. An overly humid climate can easily cause root rot, so the plant needs to be removed from the pot and the roots trimmed, then replanted in dry soil. As for insect pests, there will occasionally be scale insects, which can be removed in time after discovery.
