Diseases and their control of Mirabilis jalapa

The most common disease of Mirabilis jalapa is leaf spot, which is a fungal disease that mainly harms the leaves of Mirabilis jalapa, causing local lesions or even necrosis of the leaves. Leaf spot disease of Mirabilis jalapa occurs mainly in July in North China and Northeast China.

When leaf spot disease occurs in Mirabilis jalapa, certain measures need to be taken to prevent and control it. First of all, you can remove the diseased parts of the Mirabilis jalapa to prevent the disaster from further expanding. In the early stage of the disease, you can spray 800 times diluted 75% thiophanate-methyl wettable granules or 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable granules for prevention and control. It takes 2 to 3 times of spraying to be effective. When applying fertilizer on a daily basis, you can apply some potassium fertilizer or phosphorus fertilizer to improve the disease resistance of Mirabilis jalapa. When watering, you need to be careful and ensure the amount of water is appropriate. Avoid flooding. Normally, keep the soil free of water and do a good job of drainage in rainy weather.

Pests and their control on Mirabilis jalapa

Common pests of Mirabilis jalapa include leaf rollers, snails, white grubs, and peach borers. Leaf rollers mainly harm the leaves of Mirabilis jalapa. When Mirabilis jalapa is harmed by leaf rollers, it can be treated by spraying with 50% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate. Snails also harm the leaves of Mirabilis jalapa. If their number is small, they can be captured manually. If the number of snails is large, they can be killed by spraying 1000 times diluted 90% dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane. White grubs can cause damage to the roots of Mirabilis jalapa. Generally, a black light is set up to lure and kill the grubs. You can also sprinkle some carbaryl powder or phoxim granules to kill the grubs. The peach borer harms the seeds of Mirabilis jalapa, and can be killed by spraying 3000 times diluted 3% hypertonic fenoxycarb emulsifiable concentrate.
