How to cultivate bitter vegetable

How to cultivate bitter vegetable

1. Soil:

Bitter melon has a strong adaptability to soil and can be planted on most plots of land, but it is better to choose a plot with good drainage, fertile soil and convenient irrigation.

2. Lighting:

Bitter melon prefers a shady and humid environment and cannot tolerate strong light. When the sunlight is soft, it can receive sunlight for a long time. When the light is strong, it is not conducive to the growth of bittercress and needs to be shaded.

3. Temperature:

Bitter melon is not resistant to cold and high temperatures. Too low temperatures can easily cause the plants to freeze to death, while too high temperatures can affect their growth. During the cultivation period, the temperature should be adjusted to 18-25℃.

4. Fertilization:

The requirements of bitter vegetable for fertilizer are relatively high. Sufficient base fertilizer should be applied in the early stage of cultivation to ensure nutrients. Top dressing is needed in the later stage, mainly nitrogen fertilizer.

5. Notes:

1. Sowing: Sowing can be done by direct seeding or seedling transplanting. Direct seeding is generally used in production. The methods of direct seeding can be hole sowing, row sowing or spot sowing. Since seeds have poor soil-penetrating ability, the sowing depth should not be too deep.

2. Pests and diseases: The plant of bitter vegetable contains a white latex, which is a bitter element, so it has very few pests and diseases. Generally, there will only be some pest damage between summer and autumn, and at this time you only need to spray general insecticides to prevent and control them.
