How to grow hemlock

How to grow hemlock

1. Soil

Hemlock grows best in deep, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. It likes an acidic or slightly neutral soil environment. During the cultivation process, you can add some river sand and black mountain mud to make it grow better.

2. Lighting

It likes shade and needs proper light in the later stage of growth. It is suitable to be planted in a well-ventilated and backlit place. When the light is strong in summer, appropriate shade is needed.

3. Temperature

It is suitable for growing in a warm and cool climate. The most suitable temperature for its growth in a year is 15-23℃, and it should not be lower than 8℃ in winter. During the high temperature period in summer, appropriate shade and cooling measures are needed. During the low temperatures in winter, take good warming measures to help it survive the winter safely.

4. Watering

It likes a humid environment, so be sure to water it thoroughly each time to keep it moist. In summer, water the plants once every morning or evening, and once every 2-3 days in spring and autumn. In winter, the duration of watering can be extended appropriately, with watering once every 5-7 days.

5. Fertilization

It is relatively tolerant to fertilizer. In the early stages of growth, apply 0.5% urea once every half a month. During the peak growth period, after watering, apply compound fertilizer, wood ash, etc. Fertilization should be stopped in the later stage of growth. You can spray 0.3%-0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once to promote lignification of seedlings so that they can safely survive the winter.
