How to plant water lilies

How to plant water lilies

Required Materials

For water lily seeds, choose plump and sterile seeds.

container or basin, or choose a larger non-porous pot.

Water, fertilizer, silt, gloves and other tools.

Planting method

Choose potting soil

Try to choose a flower pot that opens outwards, has a wider mouth and a shallower pot. The leaves will grow vigorously if they open outward, the mouth of the pot will be wider, the flowers will be larger, the pot will be shallower, and the flowering intervals will be smaller.

As for the soil for growing water lilies, it is different from that for ordinary flowers. The more sticky the better. The silt in the pond is the best choice.

Seed treatment

Water lily seeds have a hard shell and need to be soaked. Before doing this, you need to grind the concave end of the seed to facilitate germination. Then soak the seeds in warm water at 20 to 30 degrees Celsius and wait for them to germinate. After about a week, small green sprouts will grow. After germination, move it to a sunny place and when tender small leaves grow, it can be planted.

Basin

When the seeds are planted, the potting soil has been prepared and put aside. Wait until two leaves grow and then you can plant them in the pot. Plant the seeds that have sprouted and grown leaves into the soil together, with the water being deep enough not to submerge the leaves.

After planting, you must maintain the water supply and replenish water in time.

Maintenance methods

Fertilizer and water management

2 to 3 weeks after transplanting, the water lily will enter the growth period, which requires more water, and the leaves must always float on the water. When it is rainy, pay attention to draining water in time to avoid the water level being too deep, which will cause the leaves to turn yellow.

Water lily is a fertilizer-loving plant. When new leaves grow out, they are yellow and thin, but have no obvious spots. This is a sign of fertilizer deficiency. It is necessary to replenish phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in time and apply thin cake fertilizer water every 15 to 20 days.

Adequate lighting

The intensity of light is the key to determining the growth of water lilies. Water lilies will grow vigorously in an environment with sufficient light and a warm climate. On the contrary, it is possible that the leaves will turn yellow and no flowers will bloom.
