How to sow baby's breath

Choose loose soil

In fact, you don’t need to buy flower soil, just dig some outside. Before planting, wet the soil first, sprinkle the seeds after they are shaped, and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Sunlight and temperature are essential. The principle of watering is to water when the soil is dry. The amount of watering should be reduced after the seedling stage. As the baby's breath grows, it will grow too tall, and it is necessary to continuously add soil to fix it, and it should not be too dense.

If you are more careful in planting, it is recommended to disinfect the soil before planting and expose it to the sun for a few days.

sowing

Since baby's breath is afraid of heat during the entire growing period and the optimum temperature for sowing is 15-20℃, it can be sown in spring and autumn in the south and in spring in the north.

Transplant after germination

Gypsophila paniculata is easy to grow, and the seedlings usually germinate in about 10 days. However, baby's breath can easily die if you repot it, but if you transplant it with soil, it is easier to survive. You just need to be very careful when watering it after transplanting, so as not to overwhelm the seedlings!

Precautions for sowing baby's breath

1. First moisten the peat soil and then sow the seeds. When watering, water thoroughly, not just on the surface.

2. Keep away from light and cover with soil (just cover the seeds). Pay attention to the planting depth. If it is too deep, the seeds will be difficult to germinate. If it is too shallow, the seeds will be exposed to light too early and will not germinate easily.

3. Cover with plastic wrap and poke some small holes in the film with a toothpick.

4. Place it in a dark and shaded place and make sure to keep it ventilated.

Gypsophila after sowing

About 20-35 days after planting, side buds begin to sprout from the lower part of the plant. At this time, you can retain the lower 3-4 pairs of leaves and remove the main top to allow side branches to grow so as to obtain high yields. Generally, 6-8 side branches are retained for each plant. Most varieties take 70-90 days from topping to flowering. It’s okay not to top the plant, but there may be fewer flowers!
