Why should we change the pot and soil?

Spring is the main period of plant growth. At this time, after a long period of growth, the nutrients in the old soil are reduced, compaction and clots appear, and there is insufficient space in the flower pots. These will seriously affect the growth of plants in spring, so it is necessary to repot and change the soil to provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of plants!

How to repot

The time to change pots and soil is generally in spring. Flower pots are generally changed from small pots to larger ones, and the culture soil must also be replaced. This will promote the growth of flowers and even make the pots bloom.

The frequency and period of repotting vary according to the different flower varieties.

For example, Clivia, jasmine, rose, etc., generally the pot is changed once a year; while orchids, camellias, azaleas, etc. can be changed every 2 to 3 years.

Steps to repot soil:

After the soil in the pot is slightly dry, you can turn the pot upside down and gently tap the edge of the pot with your hand to separate the soil from the pot.

Hold the plant gently with one hand, and use your other hand to push the soil ball out of the drainage hole.

After taking out the plant, remove the old soil and then trim the roots. The first step is to clean the surface soil, but not too much. Then cut off the old roots of the plant to make it easier for the plant to absorb new nutrients.

The tidied plants can be re-potted. You can place the plant in the middle of the pot, keeping the original planting depth, then fill it with new potting soil, compact the soil so that the roots are in close contact with the soil, and then water it thoroughly.

Tips

If the flower pot used for repotting is an old one, it needs to be disinfected. It can be washed with clean water. If conditions permit, it can be sterilized by soaking it in 2% copper sulfate solution for about 3 to 4 hours, then rinse it with clean water and use it after drying.

If you use a new pot, since it has a large water absorption capacity and contains alkali, it needs to be fully soaked in clean water for about 1 to 2 days before it can be used.
