Growing Gardenia jasminoides with Kitchen Waste

Growing Gardenia jasminoides with Kitchen Waste

Production of soybean milk residue fertilizer from Gardenia jasminoides

Material selection

Many of our families make soy milk for breakfast. Do we throw away the remaining dregs? In fact, the dregs can be used as fertilizer after fermentation. Choose the bean dregs left over from making soy milk, drain the water, and let them dry slightly until they are no longer sticky.

Fermentation

Put the soy milk residue into a thick transparent plastic bucket or glass jar, leaving a slight gap at the mouth of the bottle to prevent the generated gas from exploding the bottle. Cover the top with a plastic bag and place it outdoors to ferment. When bubbles are seen coming out, it means the fermentation is complete. To avoid the bad smell during fermentation, you can add some orange peel.

How to use small-leaf gardenia soybean milk residue fertilizer

1. Use chopsticks to poke a few holes around the flowerpot, put the fermented bean dregs in, cover the top with soil, and water it normally. It can have the effect of slow-release fertilizer. Apply fertilizer at the location marked with a black circle in the picture below, and do not apply it too close to the taproot to avoid root burn.

2. Ferrous sulfate and fermented bean dregs are mixed in a ratio of 1:30 for irrigation. Note that you should water the plant twice after use.

3. Fermented bean dregs are rich in nutrients and humus. Combined with ferrous sulfate, they can adjust the pH value of the soil and improve the soil.
