How to grow orchids with better quality

How to grow orchids with better quality

Adequate lighting

Orchids prefer shade, but they do not need light. Generally speaking, if there is sufficient light, the orchid plant will store more nutrients and the flower buds will develop better. If there is insufficient light, the plant will grow vigorously, but it will have fewer nutrients in its body and it will be difficult to meet the nutrient needs during the flowering period.

Therefore, before flowering, it is necessary to increase the light appropriately and let the orchid get more sun in spring, autumn and winter.

The temperature difference between day and night is large

Photosynthesis and respiration are integrated. Only when the nutrients produced by photosynthesis are greater than the nutrients consumed by respiration will the orchid store nutrients in its body. Therefore, it is appropriate to lower the temperature at night and reduce respiration. The more nutrients the orchid accumulates in its body, the more it will bloom.

Increase ventilation at night and strive to keep the temperature difference between day and night around 10℃.

Low temperature vernalization should be sufficient

Time has proven that orchids must undergo low-temperature vernalization before they can bloom in season. If the temperature is too high in winter and vernalization is not sufficient, orchids will have dead buds, especially Cymbidium orchids. Even if they manage to bloom, the quality will be very poor.

Bud thinning to promote growth

After a winter of dormancy, the flower buds will grow faster. At this time, you can thin out the flower buds according to the growth of the plants and the principle of removing the weak and retaining the strong. Generally, two or three flower buds are left in a full pot of Chunlan.
