How to dwarf chrysanthemums

How to dwarf chrysanthemums

Selection of chrysanthemum varieties

Choose dwarf varieties. Ordinary families often choose desk chrysanthemums for cultivation because they have the advantages of short plants, large flowers, lush leaves, bright colors, short growing period and long viewing period. When selecting cuttings, try to choose cuttings from mother plants of the same variety with short internodes and thick stems, so that the chrysanthemums cultivated will be shorter.

Chrysanthemum cutting time

Delaying the time of cuttings will shorten the vegetative growth period of chrysanthemums and achieve the purpose of dwarfing the plants. One of the key factors that determine whether chrysanthemums can be dwarfed is the time of cuttings. Generally speaking, the time for cuttings of chrysanthemums is from April to May each year. If you are cultivating multiple chrysanthemums, the time of cuttings can be postponed to mid-July. If it is a single chrysanthemum, it should be postponed to early August.

How to propagate chrysanthemums by cuttings

Produce cuttings reasonably and follow the principle of "shallow planting". Insert the cuttings about three or four centimeters into the pot, then press the soil with your hands to compact it and water it once. After half a month, if the cuttings are still green, it means they have taken root and survived. One month after cuttings, start the first transplant. After transplanting, place them in a cool place away from light. Wait until the seedlings have grown and then move them to a sunny place to receive sufficient light. The second transplanting should also follow the principle of shallow planting. The method is to first bury the soil in the pot to about half the height of the pot, and then gradually cover the soil as the stems of the chrysanthemum grow.

Chrysanthemum pinching

When the seedlings reach a height of about ten centimeters, pinch off the top. The number of pinching should be determined according to the growth habits of different varieties. The last pinching should not be too late, otherwise it will result in no buds or the buds will not open. In addition to the single-stem chrysanthemum, it is generally necessary to keep 5-7 flowers in potted chrysanthemums.

Chrysanthemum water and fertilizer control

Follow the principle of "control first and promote later". During the growing season, less water and fertilizer should be used to prevent excessive growth, but in the later growth and flowering stages, the amount of water and fertilizer should be increased to encourage the growth of plump flower buds.

Spraying plant growth regulators

The hormones used for dwarfing chrysanthemums include B9, paclobutrazol, etc. The usage concentration of Bijiu is 0.1% - 0.2%. The specific method of use is: within one week after cutting, spray the top of the chrysanthemum seedlings with a Bijiu solution once to achieve the purpose of inhibiting the rapid growth of the top. One week after potting, spray the plant evenly with the Bijiu solution every 7-10 days or so, until buds appear. This process should not be interrupted. It is generally better to spray the pesticide in the evening. Do not spray at noon as this may cause pesticide damage.

Based on the dwarfing method introduced by the editor, I believe flower lovers can grow plump and gorgeous chrysanthemums!
