Common diseases and pests of lilies

Common diseases and pests of lilies

Mosaic

symptom

It is also known as "lily latent mosaic disease". The specific symptoms are that dark and light brown-green spots and dead spots will appear on the leaves. The infected plants will grow short, the leaves will become smaller and curled at the edges, and occasionally light brown spindle-shaped spots will grow on the petals. The flowers will be abnormally shaped and cannot open.

Prevention and treatment methods

Seeds should be selected from virus-free bulbs, and pests such as aphids and leafhoppers should be controlled. Once the disease infects, the diseased branches should be immediately removed and destroyed.

Spot disease

symptom

In the early stages of the disease, small brown spots will appear on the leaves, which may expand into brown lesions with darker brown edges. Then many black spots will appear in the center of the lesion, and in severe cases the entire leaf will turn black and die.

Prevention and treatment methods

Remove the diseased leaves and spray them with 500 times diluted 65% mancozeb wettable powder to cut off the spread of the virus.

Bulb rot

symptom

The specific symptoms are brown spots on the lily bulbs. In severe cases, the entire bulb turns brown and rots.

Prevention and treatment methods

When the disease first occurs, use 300 times diluted 50% concentration of mancozeb for spraying.

Leaf blight

symptom

In the early stage of the disease, the disease appears at the tip of the lower part of the leaves and is concentrated on the leaves. Irregular circular spots of different sizes will appear on the diseased leaves, and the color varies depending on the variety, such as light yellow and gray-brown. Severely diseased leaves will die.

Prevention and treatment methods

When cultivating lilies in a greenhouse, it is necessary to ensure ventilation and light transmission and increase management intensity; when disease occurs, the diseased leaves should be removed, and 800-1000 times diluted 50% concentration of thiophanate-methyl wettable powder or 1% concentration of 1 equivalent Bordeaux mixture should be sprayed every 7-10 days. Spraying 3-4 times will be enough.

It is said that "long illness makes a good doctor", and only we flower lovers can become the doctors of flowers, and hold up an airtight umbrella of protection for our beloved flowers.
