Jasmine is loved by many flower lovers for its easy maintenance and strong flowering ability. It can bloom fragrant white flowers almost all year round. For newly purchased seedlings, proper pruning and care can encourage them to grow quickly and produce spectacular clusters of flowers. Let’s learn how to prune jasmine. 1. Initial pruning For young seedlings, avoid letting them bloom in the early stages, as the flowers may be sparse and have little ornamental value. The goal is to get the plant to grow quickly and develop enough lateral branches so that it can fill the pot with blooms at once. 2. Pruning techniques Keep a section of the stem at the bottom of the seedling and remove the bottom bud to ensure ventilation and prevent leaf rot. When the top bud grows into one to two pairs of leaves, topping is carried out, that is, the top is cut off to encourage side branches to grow from the leaf axils below the cut. Repeat the topping process until the plant has the ideal shape and number of side branches, then stop topping and allow the plant to flower normally. 3. Fertilization In the early stages of seedling growth, choose a high-nitrogen fertilizer , such as Huaduoduo No. 10, and apply it 2 to 3 times a month to promote rapid growth. When you are satisfied with the plant shape, switch to fertilizers with high phosphorus content, such as Huaduoduo No. 2, to promote flower bud differentiation and flowering. 4. Watering Keep the soil in the pot moist but not waterlogged. When the surface of the soil is dry, water it thoroughly in time. 5. Soil and flower pots Use soil that is well-ventilated and water-permeable, and avoid using pots that are too large to limit root development. In northern areas, ferrous sulfate solution can be used regularly to keep the soil acidic and prevent yellow leaves. In short, in addition to pruning, jasmine also needs sufficient sunlight. Lack of light will cause the plant to grow too tall and reduce flowering. Make sure your jasmine plant is in a location that gets plenty of light. Keeping the indoor temperature above 15 degrees is conducive to the good growth and flowering of jasmine.
