How to grow strawberries to achieve high yield?

Strawberry, originating from South America, is honored as the "Queen of Fruits" and is well-known for its excellent nutritional value. It is rich in vitamin A, dietary fiber and carotene , and is widely favored by consumers. This fruit has a short growth cycle, a quick maturity period, and strong adaptability, so it is cultivated on a large scale in many areas of our country. Let’s learn together how to grow strawberries to achieve high yields.

1. Select good varieties and adapt to local conditions

There are many varieties of strawberries, such as European Four Seasons Red, Sweet Charlie, and Frandy, etc., and the choice should be based on the local environment.

2. Scientific seedling cultivation and meticulous management

Seedling management is the key to successful strawberry cultivation . Through both open-air and greenhouse cultivation modes, fertile, well-drained, non- salty land is selected as the seedling base. Open-air cultivation requires emphasis on light and soil quality, while greenhouse cultivation focuses on terrain and ventilation and light transmission. Establish a nursery with a crop rotation system of more than two years, apply well-rotted farmyard manure and compound fertilizer to enhance soil fertility. Select healthy mother plants at the right time, control light and temperature reasonably, and promote the healthy growth of seedlings.

3. Precise planting and optimized layout

The best time to plant strawberries is from late April to early May. Select seedlings with well-developed root systems, thick stems and lush leaves for transplanting. Through reasonable close planting (plant spacing 16-20cm, row spacing 30-35cm), we ensure that each strawberry plant has sufficient growing space and resources. When transplanting, avoid direct sunlight, use shallow planting methods, and water enough to allow the roots to take root and promote rapid recovery of the root system.

4. Strengthen field management and improve fruit quality

Management of flowers, fruits, branches and leaves: Sufficient water and fertilizer are required during the flowering and fruiting period, and flowers and fruits should be thinned out in time to avoid nutrient waste and the occurrence of diseases and pests. Remove old and diseased leaves in time to enhance the ventilation and light transmission of the plant.

Water and fertilizer management: Follow the growth needs of strawberries and arrange irrigation and fertilization scientifically. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, focus on the supplementation of potassium and phosphorus fertilizers, especially during the flowering period, to ensure a balanced supply of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Hormone regulation: Gibberellic acid is used in the early stage of seedling cultivation to promote the growth of runners, and paclobutrazol is used in the later stage to control runners, promote flower bud differentiation, and improve strawberry yield and quality.

Pest and disease control: adopt an integrated prevention and control strategy, give priority to disease-resistant varieties, strengthen field monitoring, and use physical and biological means to reduce the use of chemical pesticides. When pests and diseases are discovered, isolate the diseased plants in time and use pesticides scientifically to ensure green and pollution-free production of strawberries.

In short, the cultivation of strawberries requires comprehensive consideration of variety selection, seedling management, planting technology and field management. Through scientific cultivation technology and management measures, the quality and yield of strawberries can be effectively improved to meet market demand.
