How to grow orchids to promote new buds

Awakening dormant buds

When growing orchids, new orchid plants generally grow from the orchid's pseudobulbs. Theoretically, one orchid can produce 6 new seedlings. But in fact, the number of sprouts is very small. Many of them can only sprout one, and the rest are dormant.

At this time, we can wake up the dormant buds so that more buds can sprout.

Moderate division to promote new sprouts

Many times, the root system of orchids does not grow well. This is because the plants are aging, leaving new plants without nutrients to grow, and the orchids that are at the apical dominance inhibit the growth of other dormant buds. Therefore, it is very useful to carry out division moderately so that orchids can grow more buds and more seedlings.

Sprained bulb connection

Another traditional method is to sprain the joints of the orchid in autumn to encourage more germination.

In spring, take out the orchid plant, pinch the two pseudobulbs with your hands, and twist them in opposite directions, then sprinkle medicine powder on them to prevent infection.

Replant the orchid into the flowerpot. It won’t take long before new buds will grow again, and the buds that grow will be relatively strong.

Using hormones to promote germination

Hormones can promote cell division and growth. Applying them to the orchid panel can encourage the orchid to grow new buds. If used well, second, third or even fourth generation seedlings can be grown in one year.

Prolong the growth period appropriately

After a year, orchids generally have two periods of vigorous growth in spring and autumn, and also have two periods of dormancy. Note that during its dormant period, the plant will stop growing. If the environment can be improved and the growing period of orchids can be extended, more sprouts can be produced.
