How to propagate Dendrobium roseum

How to propagate Dendrobium roseum

Preparation before breeding

No matter which method you use, you must prepare the matrix in advance, so let's take a look at what you need to prepare. This plant prefers a semi-shady environment and has high requirements for humidity, especially for flower lovers in the north where the air is relatively dry, so you must choose a good location. There are not too many requirements for the substrate used, but the substrate must be breathable.

Methods of reproduction

Division

This method is relatively simple, you just need to separate the whole plant. It is usually done after flowering. Take it directly out of the pot and pull it open with your hands without using a knife. But they cannot be planted directly after being separated. The old roots must be removed, and then they can be filled into the prepared substrate. It is still not too fussy about simplicity.

Sprouting

This method is only applicable to plants that have been planted for more than 3 years. When you see small plants growing from the base, you can start the operation. Choose small plants that already have 3-4 leaves and 2-3 roots, cut them directly from under the mother plant, and then pay attention to disinfection. After disinfection, you can plant them. If planted in this way, it will bloom again after 2 years.

Cuttings

This method is relatively simple and common, and can be combined with repotting. It is best to choose a time when the temperature conditions are better from April to August. Small buds often grow on their stem nodes, so they are more suitable for cuttings. Choose branches that are not blooming but are relatively full, and after disinfection, you can insert them into the substrate.

After planting, place it in a cool place. No need to water it for the first week. After that, you need to spray it frequently to keep it moist. New buds will grow after 1-2 months, and it will take another 2-3 years to bloom.
