How to care for lotus during its flowering period

How to care for lotus during its flowering period

1. Flowering period

The blooming of lotus is unique in that it opens one by one without interfering with each other. The flowering period of a single flower is relatively short, only a few days, but compared with the flowering period of a group of lotus flowers, the flowering period is very long. The flowering period varies between the north and the south due to climate differences, with more than three months in the south and only about two months in the north. Generally, after the lotus stamens emerge from the water, you can see them blooming about ten days later.

2. Maintenance during flowering period

(1) Soil selection

The growing environment of lotus is different from that of other flowers. You can go to ponds or streams to get silt. If you are worried that the water will become turbid after adding silt, you can first use fine sand from the river to lay the bottom, and then add silt. This will ensure that the water is clear and allow the lotus to grow stably.

(2) Water quality issues

If you plant lotus in a small pond, you don't need to change the water frequently, just replenish the water in time; the lotus in the culture dish can be changed every one or two weeks to ensure the water quality is clean. In summer, you must replenish water in time and never let it lack water, and in winter you need to take appropriate warming measures.

(3) Fertilization issues

Lotus is generally fertilized with phosphorus fertilizer, and a little nitrogen fertilizer can be added if necessary. If you are not sure, you can directly buy special fertilizer. If you have organic fertilizer at home, it is recommended to mix it with the silt before adding it, the effect will be better. In the summer when lotus is growing vigorously, if you find that the lotus leaves are turning yellow or falling off, you can add some urea into the mud, but not too much.

(4) Disease problems

The prevention and control of diseases should mainly focus on preventive measures, such as selecting excellent disease-resistant varieties and promptly cleaning up dead branches and diseased leaves. In addition, the combination of water and drought can effectively avoid harmful bacteria.
