How to grow clematis

How to grow clematis

1. Breeding environment

(1) Soil: The soil for growing clematis requires good drainage and fertility, and according to the plant's requirements for pH, alkaline soil is required. You can mix the soil with coconut coir, peat, and perlite in a ratio of three to one to one. You can also add large particles such as bark and volcanic rocks.

(2) Watering: It is relatively drought-resistant but afraid of waterlogging. During the growing season, just keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. In summer, the frequency can be more frequent, about once every three days; in winter, control the water, about once every half a month. You can water as you like in spring and autumn, just water when the soil is dry.

(3) Light: It likes light very much, so it is better to maintain it in full light, but direct light is also fine. However, in the summer, there will be particularly strong direct sunlight, so shading is needed.

(4) Fertilization: It does not require much fertilizer and only needs some liquid fertilizer during the growth period, once every half a month.

2. Disease prevention and control

Wilt disease is relatively common and needs to be dealt with promptly. After wilting occurs, reduce watering immediately. Then you need to top it and then cut the leaves. Finally, use carbendazim to disinfect the roots, and place it in a cool place for maintenance until new buds sprout.

3. Pruning

After the flowering period, it needs to be pruned once, and some branches can be cut off for cuttings. In autumn and winter, because the plant is about to enter dormancy, it needs to be pruned once to help it survive the winter.
