How Succulents Are Pollinated

How Succulents Are Pollinated

Understanding Pollination

The part of flower A that emits dewdrops is the stigma of the pistil, which transports pollen to the ovary to complete the pollination process. The stigma will burst on the second or third day after the buds are fully open. This is the best time for pollination. Pollination too early or too late will result in pollination failure.

The yellow exploding heads on the outer circle of flower B are pollen on the stamens. You must wait until the pollen explodes like this before you can use it.

first step

Break off the sepals, petals and stamens on the outside of the two flowers and set aside for later use. Breaking off debris other than the pistil can avoid interference during pollination and facilitate seed collection.

Step 2

Break off the stamen from petal B and use the pollen to wipe the flower head on the front of A. The stigma should be clearly covered with pollen.

Step 3

Write down the notes and mark the pollinated plants with small pieces of paper. Failure to write down the information of the parents will result in the appearance of "unknown" varieties.

After pollination, just wait for the seeds of succulents to mature. Many successfully pollinated seed pods will crack, and as they mature, the cracks will become larger until the seeds can be seen. Therefore, it is best to place a small box under the seed pods that are gradually maturing to collect the seeds that fall due to the cracking of the seed pods.
