How to propagate Anthurium

1. Division propagation

It has a relatively strong ability to grow tillers, so division is very suitable for its reproduction.

First of all, we need to determine the time for division. It is generally better to do it in a cooler environment, usually in spring or autumn. It is generally not chosen to do this in summer or winter.

Secondly, we need to choose suitable side buds and be careful not to damage the mother plant when dividing the side buds. There are several principles to follow when selecting side buds: first, don't choose those that are too big; second, don't choose those that are too weak; third, don't choose those that are too close to the mother plant; and fourth, the selected side buds should preferably have two or more root systems. We can cut off the ramet directly with our hands or with a blade, and disinfect it after removing it.

Place the disinfected division in a cool place to allow it to recover and take root quickly. After it takes root, it can be planted in a pot. When planting, pay attention to stretching out its roots, straightening the divisions, and providing appropriate support. Note that you cannot water it immediately after planting, but you can sprinkle water on the leaves appropriately. After 2 days, you can water it appropriately or apply some thin liquid fertilizer.

2. Seed propagation

Its seeds can be harvested and sown at any time. First we need to collect the seeds. Because the seeds are wrapped in the fruit, we can process the fruit and take out the seeds. Of course, we can also directly purchase the processed seeds.

After collecting the seeds, we can sow them in clean sand. It is best to sow them at a depth of about 0.5 to 0.8 cm. Keep the soil moist enough. They will germinate in about two weeks and small leaves will soon grow. When it grows 5 to 6 leaves, you can plant it in a pot. Note that we must prepare the soil in advance. You can mix it in a ratio of peat soil: perlite = 2:1. After planting, place it in a cool place for about 7 days and then you can grow it normally.
