How to keep pitaya seedlings alive in winter

How to keep pitaya seedlings alive in winter

1. Keep warm and control temperature

Dragon fruit seedlings have poor cold resistance and are suitable for growing in an environment between 15 and 25 degrees. Once the temperature drops below 10 degrees, frost damage is likely to occur, so the temperature must be controlled in winter, but be careful not to make it too high. Above 25 degrees will also affect growth. Usually it is buried in the soil in winter to keep warm and prevent freezing.

2. Watering and moisturizing

It is relatively drought-resistant and does not require frequent watering during normal maintenance. Moreover, it will go dormant in the low temperatures of winter, so water control is even more important. However, it does not mean that watering is unnecessary. If there is severe water shortage, it will also affect the later growth. Watering should be done in small amounts and frequently, keeping the soil in a semi-dry and semi-wet state.

3. Reasonable fertilization

It likes fertilizer, and applying appropriate amounts of fertilizer in winter can make the plant stronger and increase its cold resistance. But be careful not to use too much fertilizer and the concentration cannot be too high. It should be applied in small amounts and multiple times. Diluted potassium fertilizer can be used.

4. Suitable lighting

It likes light very much, and the temperature is low in winter, so it needs more light, which can raise the temperature and help it survive the winter. Therefore, during the maintenance period, it should be placed in a sunny place and get more sunlight, so that it will be easier to survive when transplanted later.
