How to Propagate Torch Ginger

How to Propagate Torch Ginger

1. Division propagation

If you want to divide the plant, you must first increase the amount of fertilizer and water to make the torch ginger grow stronger and promote more and stronger sprouts. It is generally best to divide the plant from April to October.

When dividing the plant, first dig out the tuber and cut it into several clumps with a sharp knife. Each clump should have 3-4 buds. After transplanting, place it in a cool growing environment and it will take root in about 1 month. It is best to divide the plants once a year to allow the plants to take shape better and accumulate nutrients for flowering.

2. Tissue Culture

This method is more suitable for large-scale planting. Its explants can be newly sprouted buds, but it is difficult to remove contamination. First, the underground stems of the mother plant should be rinsed clean and soaked in a solution of carbendazim for a day, and then placed in a plastic bag for germination. The temperature should be controlled at around 25°C. When the buds grow to 2 cm, the growth points inside can be used as explants, which are relatively less polluted.
