Camellia growth environment conditions and characteristics

Camellia growth environment conditions and requirements

Camellia is a tea tree that generally grows in subtropical and temperate regions, mostly in areas south of the Huaihe River. Camellia likes light, but has a certain degree of shade tolerance and is more suitable for growing in warm, well-lit, high and humid places.

Camellia growth temperature

During its normal growth process, camellia prefers a warm environment. The most suitable growth temperature for camellia is between 18 and 25 degrees. When the ambient temperature exceeds 29 degrees, the plant will stop growing. Camellia has a certain degree of frost resistance and can generally withstand temperatures as low as minus 8 degrees.

Camellia growth humidity

Camellia has relatively high requirements for humidity during its growth period. Generally, the humidity of the environment needs to be above 70% during its growth. Therefore, the soil needs to be kept moist during maintenance. When the weather is dry, you can spray water mist into the air.

Camellia growing soil

Camellia likes to grow in high places. It is generally more suitable to be planted in sandy loam with good drainage, good air permeability, loose and fertile. The soil can generally be loess or humus soil. The pH value of the soil is best between 5.5-6.5.

Camellia growth cycle and process

There are many varieties of camellia. New branches will begin to grow in March and April in spring, and they will bloom from October to May of the following year. The flowering period is extremely long. Generally, January to March in spring is the most beautiful time for camellia.
