How to reproduce bananas?

Banana reproduction method

When propagating bananas, you can use methods such as sucker propagation, tuber propagation, division propagation and tissue culture. Among them, sucker propagation is the main seedling cultivation method when cultivating bananas. It is also a propagation method with a relatively high survival rate, which can allow it to grow well.

Common methods of banana reproduction

1. Banana sucker propagation

Bananas are usually propagated by sucking buds from sword buds and jackets. Sword buds usually grow in November and can be used for planting in March-May of the following year, while jackets grow between August and October and can be planted in February-March of the following year.

2. Banana tuber propagation

The main purpose of using tubers to propagate bananas is to shorten the propagation time. You can use plants that have not yet flowered or borne fruit, and then cut them into pieces in November. You can also do it in January of the following year, and plant them when the seedlings grow to 40-50 cm.

3. Banana division propagation

When the sucker grows to about 40 cm next to the mother plant, the banana can be divided into two parts. First, you need to dig up the soil next to the sucker, then cut the mother plant and the sucker in the middle. After treating the root system, apply some wood ash on the cut, and then you can plant it.

4. Banana tissue culture

If bananas are planted on a large scale, tissue culture can be used to obtain a large number of test tube seedlings in a short period of time. When breeding, it is necessary to use mother plants that are strong and have neatly-arranged fruits, and they must be disinfected. The seeds will sprout after 40-50 days of culture.
