Perilla is an annual herb that can be used as medicine or made into a spice. It has good adaptability to the environment and generally prefers to grow in warm, humid and sunny places. It is widely cultivated in China, Bhutan, India, Indochina, Indonesia and Japan.

Perilla growth temperature

Perilla likes a warm environment, and the seeds will germinate when the surface temperature is above 5 degrees. The most suitable growth temperature for perilla is in the range of 22-28 degrees. Generally, the best growth temperature is around 22 degrees, and it can withstand a low temperature of 1 or 2 degrees during the seedling period.

Perilla growth humidity

Perilla likes a humid environment and is relatively resistant to high humidity. Generally, the relative humidity of the environment needs to reach 75-80% during maintenance. Frequent watering is required during the seedling and flowering stages of perilla, and the soil needs to be kept moist at all times.

Perilla growing soil

Perilla has a strong adaptability to soil and is not very demanding. It can grow on well-drained, loose, breathable and fertile sandy loam, loam or clay, but the most suitable soil is sandy soil.

Perilla growth cycle and process

Perilla is usually planted in March in spring. This season is more favorable for the growth of perilla. The growth cycle of perilla is 6 and a half months. Generally, perilla can be transplanted in mid-May and will bloom and bear fruit in September.
