Walnut growth environment conditions and characteristics

Walnut growth environment conditions and requirements

Walnut is a nut with rich nutrition. Walnut trees prefer to grow in a warm, humid, frost-free and cool environment. They prefer light and have good cold and drought resistance. They are also very resistant to diseases and insect pests.

Walnut growing temperature

Walnuts like warm environments and are thermophilic tree species. They can grow well in an environment with an average annual temperature of 9-16 degrees. Walnuts have a certain degree of cold resistance and are not afraid of freezing. The lowest temperature they can generally tolerate is around minus 2 degrees.

Walnut growth humidity

Walnuts like a humid environment, but do not need frequent watering. Generally, they need to be watered once in spring before the walnut trees sprout, and once before the walnut fruits begin to swell and before the fruits begin to be harvested. Just water the soil thoroughly each time.

Walnut growing soil

Walnuts are not very demanding on the soil and have good adaptability. Walnuts are deep-rooted tree species, so the soil for planting should be deep. Walnuts generally grow better in loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam and loam.

Walnut growth cycle and process

Walnuts usually mature and go on the market in autumn. Walnuts have a relatively long lifespan. Generally, newly planted walnuts need at least 5-10 years of care before they can bear fruit. The growth of walnuts goes through several stages: germination, leaf expansion, flowering and fruiting. After the leaves fall, the walnuts will enter a dormant period.
