Should I use a large or small basin for the keel?

It is more suitable to use a small pot for dragon bones when planting. The shape of the dragon bones needs to be in the right proportion to the pot. If you use a large pot to maintain the dragon bones, the nutrients they get will be relatively small, and it is easy to absorb incomplete nutrients.

Growth environment: Dragon bones like to grow in places with sufficient light and warmth. The best growth temperature is between 25-35 degrees. Generally, you don’t need to water them frequently, just keep the soil slightly moist.

Repotting time: The dragon bone needs to be repotted after 1 or 2 years of planting and maintenance. Generally, the best time to repot is in spring and autumn. Do not repot in summer because the survival rate of the dragon bone will be relatively low if repotted in summer.

Should I use a deep or shallow basin for the keel?

The root system of the dragon bone is not very developed, so you can use a shallow pot for maintenance, but the depth of the pot should not be too shallow, as long as it is larger than the root system of the dragon bone.

It is generally more appropriate to use a clay pot or a purple clay pot for the dragon frame, because these two types of pots have better air permeability and the material of the pots is also heavier. Usually the size of the pot is about 10-15 cm.

Keel repotting method

1. Remove the pot and prune the roots

The dragon bone needs to be watered in advance before being removed from the pot. After the potting soil and the flowerpot are separated, the old soil on the roots of the dragon bone needs to be cleaned and the roots also need to be properly trimmed.

2. Put it in the basin

After the keel is processed, it can be potted. When planting, spread a layer of broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, and then plant it with a mixture of peat soil and river sand. After planting, water the potting soil thoroughly, and then place it in a cool place to slow down the growth.
