The growing environment and local conditions of Codonopsis pilosula

Codonopsis pilosula growth environment and conditions

Codonopsis pilosula mainly grows in areas with an altitude of 1560 to 3100 meters. It is commonly found on the edges of mountain forests and in bushes. It likes a mild and cool environment and is cold-resistant. It is produced in southeastern Tibet, western Sichuan, northwestern Yunnan, eastern Gansu, southern Shaanxi, Ningxia, eastern Qinghai, Henan, Shanxi, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Northeast China.

Codonopsis pilosula growth conditions

Codonopsis seedlings like moisture, shade and are afraid of strong light. The soil needs to be kept moist after sowing. From seedlings to mature plants, they like plenty of sunlight and are suitable for planting in fertile, loose, well-drained, humus-rich sandy loam.

Codonopsis pilosula growth temperature

Codonopsis pilosula has different temperature requirements in different growth stages. The suitable germination temperature is 3℃~7℃, and seedlings can emerge at 6℃~8℃. When the daily average temperature is 18℃~20℃, it grows vigorously. The most suitable vernalization temperature is 0-5 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 30 degrees in summer, the growth will be inhibited.

The growth process of Codonopsis pilosula

Codonopsis pilosula is mostly propagated by seedling transplanting, with a growth cycle of 2-3 years. It is harvested in October-November in autumn. Generally, three-year-old Codonopsis pilosula is of better quality than two-year-old Codonopsis pilosula. Codonopsis pilosula has many horizontal stripes on the upper end, and the outer skin is beige or gray-brown with radial textures. It tastes sweet and has good quality.

Codonopsis planting time and method

Planting time:

Codonopsis pilosula can be sown between "Frost Descent" and "Beginning of Winter". The seeds do not need to be processed in the current year, and they will germinate early and grow vigorously in the next year. It can also be sown around the "Spring Equinox". The seeds need to be processed, soaked in clean water, and placed at 25 to 30 degrees for germination.

Planting method:

1. Soil: When planting Codonopsis pilosula, you should choose soil that is sufficient in nutrients, loose, fertile, well-drained, and rich in humus. Sandy soil is the most suitable.

2. Water: During the seedling period, spray it with water to make the soil moist. When it grows to five to seven centimeters, water it once, but there should be no accumulation of water. When there is accumulation of water on rainy days, drain it in time.

3. Sunlight: Codonopsis pilosula likes sunlight. Sufficient sunlight is more conducive to its growth. The planting area should face the sun to ensure better growth.

4. Pruning: When the branches and leaves of Codonopsis pilosula grow to about one meter long, in order to inhibit its growth, it is necessary to prune the tips of the branches and leaves, and also remove the unhealthy leaves.

5. Weeding: Some weeds will grow in the soil and compete for nutrients and water from the plants. If the ginseng does not absorb enough nutrients, it will affect its growth rate and must be removed as soon as possible.

6. Pests: The main pests are red spiders and mice. Red spiders can be killed by spraying with thiamethoxam, while mice can only be killed with mousetraps or food bait.

7. Root rot: Root rot of Codonopsis pilosula is generally caused by high temperature and waterlogging. At this time, the roots need to be trimmed, and you can also use carbendazim for prevention and control.
