How to germinate potato seed tubers

After the seed potatoes are dried, they should be placed on a sand bed for stratification and germination. The seedbed can be arranged indoors or outdoors. The key is to control the ambient temperature above 15°C.

One is to germinate in an indoor sandy soil seedling bed . Set up a sand bed in the corner of the room where the room temperature reaches above 15°C, and place a layer of seed potatoes on a layer of sand. The other is to germinate in an outdoor seedling bed.

Dig a pit about 25 cm deep in the east-west direction in a sunny place outdoors. Cover the pit with sand and place seed potatoes, one layer of sand and one layer of seed potatoes, preferably three layers of seed potatoes, then add an arch shed and cover it with film, and cover it with straw mats at night to keep warm .

The soil around the germination bed and the top layer should be covered with a slightly thick layer of soil, preferably 5 cm to 6 cm, and the soil between the seed blocks should be slightly thinner .

The germination bed soil can be disinfected in advance. 80g of carbendazim, 100g of DT, and 10g of Green Enjoy No. 1 or No. 2 fungicide can be mixed and disinfected per cubic meter of bed soil. The bed soil should not be too wet or too dry. It should be grasped into a ball by hand and scattered when released.

During the germination period, water should be sprinkled once or twice to prevent dryness from affecting the development of seed buds. After about a week of germination on the sand bed, diffuse light should be used to strengthen the buds. Sowing can be carried out after half a month.

In addition, gibberellin can be used to soak seeds for germination .

Especially for autumn-planted potatoes, because they are planted in autumn, the seed potatoes of the previous season are in a deep dormancy period, and the temperature is high during autumn sowing, which is not conducive to the germination of tubers, so gibberellins can be used to treat them to break dormancy and promote germination.

The method is that for seed potatoes whose buds have already sprouted or whose dormancy period is short, you can use 2 units to 5 units of gibberellin to soak the seeds for half an hour to one hour, and then sow them directly in a moist plot of land after soaking.

After soaking, the skin of the seed potatoes and the planting soil cannot be dry, otherwise the gibberellin will lose its effect.

For seed potatoes with a long dormancy period, 10 units to 15 units of gibberellin can be used to soak the seeds for half an hour to one hour.

After soaking, pile them in a cool and ventilated place and cover them with about 5 cm of wet soil and straw mat to keep them moist. After large seed buds grow and are trained in scattered light, they can be sown .

In short, when planting potatoes, it is very important to handle the seed potatoes.

Careful attention should be paid to selecting good varieties, choosing good seed potatoes, breaking dormancy to promote germination, drying the seed potatoes in the sun to strengthen buds, cutting and soaking the seeds for disinfection, and controlling the temperature of the seedbed to accelerate germination.

Especially the germination technology, which has many ways and methods, can achieve early sowing, early seedling emergence, and uniform and strong seedlings through germination, which is the basis for increasing potato yields .
