Mango's growing environment and local conditions

Mango growing environment and conditions

Mango grows in subtropical regions, generally distributed in areas with an altitude of 200 to 1,350 meters. It is commonly found on hillsides, river valleys or in wilderness forests. It is distributed in India, Bangladesh, Indochina and Malaysia. Its origin is in India.

Mango Growing Conditions

Mango prefers a warm, sunny environment and is not cold-resistant. It is suitable for growing in places with sufficient light. During the low temperatures in winter, measures to keep warm are needed, otherwise the plants will be damaged by frost, which will be detrimental to their growth in the spring of the following year.

Mango growing temperature

Mango is a thermophilic plant. The suitable growth temperature is between 25-30 degrees. If the temperature is below 20 degrees, the growth will be slow. If the temperature is below 10 degrees, the leaves and flowers will stop growing, and the nearly mature fruits will be damaged by frost.

Mango Growth Process

1. Mango flowering period: The mango flower bud differentiation period is from November to December. It usually blooms from January to March every year. Some varieties bloom from March to April. The flowering period of mango is not long, usually about 1 month. The flowering period and amount of mango directly affect the yield of mango. The more flowers, the more fruits.

2. Mango fruiting period: Mangoes will bear fruit from April to May and grow very fast. It takes about 3 to 5 months from flowering to fruit ripening. Different varieties have different ripening times. After fruit setting, the skin of green mangoes is green, while ordinary mangoes are orange or golden yellow. Full fruits can ripen later, that is, they are not fully ripe. After being picked, they can be ripened at room temperature.

Mango planting time and method

It is best to plant mango trees in June-August each year. If the plantation has irrigation conditions, it can be planted in September-October. If bagged seedlings are used, they can also be planted in spring from March to May. The best time to plant mango trees is before the rain.

Mango can be reproduced sexually and asexually. Sexual reproduction is sowing, which is usually carried out in spring and autumn. Asexual reproduction methods include grafting, aerial layering and cuttings. Grafting is generally used for reproduction.
