The difference between black wolfberry and wolfberry

1. Leaf Difference

The leaves of black wolfberry are clustered in 2 to 6 pieces on short branches. The leaves are thick and fleshy, almost sessile, and the leaf blades are linear lanceolate or linear oblanceolate, sometimes narrow lanceolate. The apex of the leaves is rounded and blunt, and the base gradually narrows. The sides of the leaves sometimes curl slightly downward.

The leaves of wolfberry are papery, single leaves are alternate, or clustered in 2 to 4 pieces, the leaves are ovate, oblong, ovate-rhombus, or ovate-lanceolate, with a sharp apex and a cuneate base, 1.5 to 5 cm long and 0.5 to 2.5 cm wide.

2. Flower Differences

One to two black wolfberry flowers grow on short branches. The pedicels are thin, about 0.5 to 1 cm long. The calyx is narrow bell-shaped, about 4 to 1 mm long. The corolla is funnel-shaped, light purple in color, and about 1.2 cm long.

The flowers of wolfberry are solitary or twin in the leaf axils on long branches. The pedicels are 1 to 2 cm long, the calyx is 3 to 4 mm long, and the corolla is funnel-shaped, about 9 to 12 mm long and lavender.

3. Fruit Difference

The black wolfberry berries are purple-black, spherical, sometimes slightly concave at the top, and about 4 to 9 mm in diameter.

The berries of wolfberry are red, ovoid, 7 to 15 mm, and the seeds are yellow, flat and kidney-shaped.
