Truffles' growing environment and local conditions

Truffles’ growing environment and conditions

Truffles prefer a cool environment and like to grow under pine, oak, poplar, willow, hazel and linden trees. The color and smell of truffles will be different depending on the tree species. Chinese truffles are mostly planted in the Jinsha River Basin. The varieties include black truffles, white truffles, etc. It is one of the specialties of Jinsha River. Yongren County in Yunnan and Panzhihua in Sichuan are the main truffle producing areas in China.

Truffle growing conditions

Truffles like to grow on alkaline soil. Good quality truffles mainly grow in calcareous areas, like Perigord in France, Alba in Italy, Yongren County in Yunnan, China, etc., all of which are located in calcareous terrain areas.

Truffle Growth Temperature

Truffles are highly adaptable to temperature, but they need temperature changes to grow and reproduce. They are suitable for growing in places with distinct four seasons. If there are at least seven frosts in winter, it is the most ideal growing place for them.

The growth process of truffles

After truffles are planted, spores germinate and mycorrhizae are formed in February and March. After the mycorrhizae are formed in April, extended hyphae will be produced. In May, more extended hyphae will twist to form primordia, and sexual reproduction will occur to grow into truffles. Fruiting bodies are formed in June, and the growth is slow at this time. July is the vigorous growth period of fruiting bodies. Truffles enter the maturity period from September to October, and the color turns yellow in December, indicating that they are mature.

Truffle planting time and method

Truffles generally cannot be cultivated artificially, and the operation is very difficult. In addition, they have very high requirements for the growing environment. There are currently no successful cases, and their production is also very scarce. Because they cannot be planted, they are very rare.
