The growth environment and temperature characteristics of water lilies

Water lily growth environment and conditions

Water lily is an aquatic plant that generally grows in water, such as in swamps, lakes, ponds, and some parks, etc. Most of them are native to tropical regions of North Africa and Southeast Asia, and are distributed in Japan, North Korea, India, the former Soviet Union, Siberia, and Europe, and are cultivated in all provinces and regions in China.

Water lily growing conditions

Water lilies like to grow in places with plenty of light and good ventilation. Clay soil is preferred for planting. Secondly, it needs to be fertilized once a month in the spring. Bone meal or cake fertilizer can be used. Finally, the water of the water lily needs to be changed. When the temperature is high, change the water every three to seven days. This can meet the growth requirements of the water lily.

Water lily growth temperature

The suitable temperature for the growth of water lilies is between 15 and 30 degrees. Water lilies maintained indoors need to be moved to a cold cellar in winter, which will allow the water lilies to enter a dormant period. After the temperature rises in the spring of the following year, the water lilies can be maintained at a temperature above 15 degrees. In addition, when the temperature is too high in summer, the water lilies need to be cooled.

Water lily growth process

The shell of water lily is very hard, so it is necessary to soak the seeds in advance and also to break them manually. There is a bulge on one end of the lotus seed and a small dent on the other end. You can use a rack to break a small hole in the end with the dent. Do not peel it. After that, make a small hole on each lotus seed and soak the seeds to germinate.

Water lily planting time and method

It is generally recommended to plant water lilies in the spring from April to June, because the temperature at this time is suitable, which is very conducive to the growth of water lilies.

When planting water lilies, it is best to choose relatively fertile sticky soil for cultivation. It needs to be planted shallowly, not too deep. Water lilies like sunny and humid environments and have high requirements for ventilation conditions. Ventilate frequently and change water in time to ensure the cleanliness of the water quality.
