How to save shallot seeds

How to save shallot seeds

Shallot seeds introduction

Shallots are also called garlic onions, winter onions, etc. They have seeds and mature from May to July. The seeds are crescent-shaped, large in size, black in color, and have slightly more and irregular wrinkles on the surface.

How to save shallot seeds

The method of preserving shallot seeds is relatively simple. Cut the bulbs from the inflorescence and let them dry thoroughly. The seeds will fall off automatically and can then be collected.

After collecting the shallot seeds, you can soak them in warm water to germinate. Note that the seeds must be fresh. Do not use shallot seeds that have been stored for a long time, otherwise the germination rate will be reduced.

Propagation of shallot seeds

Shallots can be planted from seeds. It is best to sow them in autumn from September to October. The plant grows slowly. The weather is cooler in most areas at this time. Transplanting can be done 40-50 days after sowing.

How to plant shallot seeds

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Plants like shallot prefer soil with strong fertilizer and water retention capabilities. After choosing the land, land preparation and fertilization should be carried out at the same time. Decomposed farmyard manure can be used as base fertilizer.

2. Sowing

Sow shallot seeds by row sowing or broadcasting, spread the seeds evenly, keep the soil moist, and transplant them 40-50 days after the seeds germinate.
