When is the best time to sow millet in Northeast China?

Northeast millet sowing time

Northeast millet, a plant of the Poaceae family, is mainly grown in the middle and upper reaches of the Yellow River in China.

The suitable season for sowing Northeast millet is spring, generally from April 20 to May 20. The sowing time is not exactly the same in different provinces and cities in the Northeast. Heilongjiang generally sows around April 20, while Jilin, Liaoning and other regions generally sow from early May to the 20th.

Northeast millet sowing method

1. Site selection

Northeast millet needs to choose suitable soil for sowing so that the yield can be increased. It is best to plant it in loose soil, flat terrain, good drainage, rich in organic matter and humus, reasonable crop rotation, and on land where millet has not been planted before. After the land is selected, the soil can be renovated and loosened, and high-quality farmyard manure can be applied.

2. Seed selection

Before sowing Northeast millet, you need to choose suitable seeds. It is best to choose seeds with good yield, good nutrition and strong resistance. Pick out the infull seeds, dry them in the shade, and disinfect them to prevent underground pests and white disease.

3. Planting seeds

When the temperature stably exceeds 7 degrees, you can start sowing Northeast millet. Cover it with soil, water it thoroughly once, keep the soil slightly moist, and wait for the seedlings to emerge.

Northeast millet matures and is harvested

Northeast millet is generally sown in spring and harvested in autumn. It matures and is harvested in late September or early October. The per-acre yield of Northeast millet will be affected by the region and planting technology, and is generally around 600 to 800 kilograms.
