Is Osmanthus suitable for deep or shallow pots?

Is Osmanthus suitable for deep or shallow pots?

Should Osmanthus use a deep or shallow pot?

Osmanthus is generally grown in deep pots because it is a woody plant with relatively developed roots. Usually, a shallow pot cannot ensure normal breathing of the roots when planting. Using a deep pot makes it easier for osmanthus to absorb nutrients and water.

When planting osmanthus, the material requirements for the flower pot are not very strict. Generally, materials with good air permeability and drainage can be used, and the bottom of the flower pot can have holes. It is usually most appropriate to plant it in clay pots, purple clay pots and ceramic pots.

How to repot osmanthus

1. Time to repot osmanthus

When planting and caring for osmanthus, it is generally sufficient to change the potting soil once a year. It would be more appropriate to change the pot around October in autumn, or from December in winter to February of the following year. This is when the damage to osmanthus will be minimal.

2. Watering after repotting osmanthus

Osmanthus needs to be watered immediately after being repotted. When watering for the first time, the soil must be soaked, not half-dry and half-wet. In the later stage, there is no need to water if the soil is not dry.

3. Notes on repotting osmanthus

(1) Temperature: When repotting osmanthus, the ambient temperature must be maintained at around 20-30 degrees. It cannot be too low, otherwise it will enter a dormant period.

(2) Pruning: When removing the osmanthus from the pot, the roots need to be pruned. In the later growth period, the branches and leaves that grow too densely also need to be pruned regularly.

(3) Potting soil: When repotting osmanthus, it is best to choose a mixture of humus soil, garden soil and sandy soil. Generally, acidic soil is the best.
