Methods and precautions for cutting propagation of trumpet creeper

How to reproduce trumpet creeper

Trumpet creeper is a plant of the Bignoniaceae family and the genus Trumpet creeper. It is widely planted in central China. It likes warm and humid environments and is a sun-loving plant. It has a wide range of adaptability to soils, but prefers well-drained soil and is resistant to mild salinity. It can be used as medicine and has the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, cooling blood and dispelling wind. It also has a very high ornamental value.

Trumpet creeper is generally propagated by layering, cuttings, and root division. It is generally difficult for it to produce seeds, so cuttings and layering are often used.

When propagating trumpet creeper by cuttings, it can be done in spring or rainy season. Layering propagation is suitable for July. The buds need to be exposed and the soil maintained moist. It will grow in about 50 days. Root division propagation is best carried out in early spring. You can dig out the seedlings next to the mother plant and plant them.

How to propagate trumpet creeper by cuttings

Trumpet creeper is suitable for cuttings in spring and autumn. It is generally carried out in spring in the south and in autumn in the north. Both seasons are suitable for rooting and the survival rate of planting is high. The specific cutting method of trumpet creeper is as follows:

1. The cuttings of Trumpet Creeper need to be selected in advance. Generally, you can start preparing at the end of the year. Choose branches with vigorous growth and no diseases or insect pests as cuttings. If they have aerial roots, you can give priority to them. The length should be 10-15 cm. Try to ensure that there are three sections. Clean the leaves at the lower end and keep the leaves at the top. Store them in sand, which is more beneficial for later growth.

2. Trumpet creeper has a wide adaptability to soil. You can mix soil and sand and insert the prepared cuttings into the soil. The insertion depth should be about half of the cuttings. Press it tightly and then water it to ensure that the soil is thoroughly watered. At the same time, try to keep the temperature at around 25°C.

Precautions for cuttings of trumpet creeper

After the trumpet creeper is cut and propagated, place it in a place with good ventilation and not strong sunlight. Pay attention to temperature control and moisture retention, water and spray frequently to keep the substrate moist. The cuttings will take root after about three weeks, and you can plant them in pots in the spring of the second year.
