Introduction to Lychee

Litchi, also known as Lizhi, is a plant of the Sapindaceae family and the genus Litchi. It is about 10 meters tall, with bright red and purple-red peel. The color is bright red when ripe. The seeds are wrapped in aril. It blooms in spring and fruits in summer. The flesh is delicious but cannot be stored well.

The main cultivated varieties of litchi are thirteen kinds, including March Red, Round Branch, Black Leaf, Huaizhi, Guiwei, Niumici, Yuanhong, Lanzhu, Chenzi, Gualü, Crystal Ball, Feizishao, and Baitangpeng.

Litchi Planting Conditions

Litchi likes high temperature and high humidity environment, likes an environment with plenty of sunshine, and needs relatively low temperature during the flower bud differentiation period, but will suffer from frost damage if the temperature is between minus 2 degrees and minus 4 degrees. The most favorable weather during the flowering period is sunny and warm but not dry and hot. Low temperature and rainy season are not conducive to flowering and pollination.

Litchi is native to the Lingnan region of China and is distributed in southern, southwestern and southeastern China. It is currently mainly cultivated in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Hainan, Sichuan, Taiwan, and southern Fujian (Xiamen, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou areas).

Lychee planting time

It is suitable to sow lychees in spring from April to June and in autumn from August to September. These two time periods are when the germination rate of lychee seeds is the highest and they grow the best. However, China has a vast territory, and the climate and soil conditions in various places are somewhat different.

The planting cost of one acre of litchi consists of fertilizers, labor, seedlings, etc., with a total cost of 1,500 yuan. The output of one acre is about 400 kilograms. According to the recent market conditions, excluding costs, the profit of one acre of litchi is about 2,500 yuan.
