What soil is suitable for growing garlic?

Garlic Introduction

Garlic prefers cool, high-sunlight and high-temperature climates. It grows best in sandy loam and has a strong spicy taste. Its roots are shallow, its water absorption capacity is weak, and it is not drought-resistant. It is recommended to choose loose soil with rich organic matter when planting garlic, because the root distribution range of garlic is small and its ability to absorb water and fertilizer is weak.

What soil should be used to grow garlic?

Garlic is suitable for planting in fertile, loose loam with high organic matter content. It is best to grow it in a slightly acidic environment, with a pH value of around 5.0~6.0.

Sandy loam : Garlic is best planted in sandy loam because it has a loose structure and is suitable for root growth. The planted garlic turns green early, has large bulbs, and is easy to harvest.

How to prepare garlic nutrient soil

Subsoil preparation: The subsoil you choose should be brown to black soil, which can usually be collected from places where garbage is often burned or where there are a lot of weeds. This kind of soil is not sticky and does not clump.

Screening soil: The subsoil may contain some tiles or coarse sand, etc. We need to remove these coarse and hard pieces by screening the soil.

Collect wood ash/rotten leaves: Collect some rotten leaves in the woods and chop them up. The fallen leaves in the woods have not been cleaned up for a long time. Due to less sunlight and humidity, the ash rots more thoroughly. This is a very good farm fertilizer.

Composting: For example, discarded vegetable leaves, fruit peels, rotten fruits, tree leaves, etc., we use these as raw materials and put them in the composting tank for composting.

Mix into nutrient soil: add wood ash to the subsoil, use tools to stir the wood ash and subsoil, so that the wood ash and subsoil are fully mixed together, then sprinkle in the fertilizer water in the composting tank, sprinkle evenly, so that the fertilizer water can penetrate into every part of the subsoil, and then use tools to loosen the mixed soil and let it stand for 2 days.
