How to grow azalea so that it blooms

Azalea flowering time

Rhododendrons usually bloom from April to June every year, but the flowering time varies depending on the variety and the cultivation area. It can last for about two weeks after flowering. If the growing environment is more suitable, it can be extended to about one month.

How to grow and bloom azalea

1. Fertilizer : Rhododendron needs timely top dressing in March. It is best to apply fertilizer 1-2 times every 15 days. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers can be used. This can increase the large amount of nutrients needed for flowering and promote better growth of flower buds.

2. Bud thinning : Azalea needs to be thinned out before blooming, so that the flowers will be large and colorful. Only one bud is needed on each branch, and the rest need to be removed. This will concentrate nutrients for flowering.

3. Light : Azalea needs sufficient sunlight during its flowering period. If there is insufficient light, it will affect the formation of flower buds and prevent it from blooming. Therefore, there must be sufficient sunlight and a good ventilation environment at normal times.

4. Water : Azalea has a relatively high demand for water. During normal maintenance, the soil needs to be kept moist. Stop watering 2-3 days before flowering to keep the soil dry. Watering can be resumed after flowering.
