When and how to plant peppers

When and how to plant peppers

Pepper planting time

Green peppers have strong adaptability to the environment and can be planted all year round. They are usually sown in spring from late January to early February, transplanted in mid-March to early April, and harvested in May-July. Autumn sowing is in early August, transplanted in September, and harvested in October-December.

How to plant peppers

1. Site selection and land preparation

Green peppers are suitable for planting in loose, fertile, organic-rich sandy soil. They can also be planted in loess or sandy soil. Do not plant them in poorly drained clay soil, as this is not conducive to the normal growth of the plants. After selecting a site, the land must be prepared and then sufficient fertilizer must be applied.

2. Seed treatment

Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water at 50 degrees. After soaking for about 24 hours, they can be taken out, rinsed with clean water, placed in a place suitable for germination, and the temperature should be controlled at a certain level. They can be sown in about 3-5 days.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

Before sowing peppers, you can water the seedbed thoroughly, then scatter the processed seeds in the seedbed, and then apply a layer of humus fertilizer. After sowing, in order to keep warm and moist, you can cover it with a layer of plastic film. Generally, seedlings will emerge in about 5 days.

4. Reasonable density planting

When the seedlings grow to about 15 cm, you can start transplanting. In order to increase the survival rate, dig out the seedlings together with the soil, and then plant them with a row spacing of about 30 cm and a plant spacing of about 25-30 cm. Be sure to water them in time after planting.

Notes on planting peppers

After the peppers are planted and survive, their growth conditions must be observed in a timely manner. If dead or missing seedlings are found, they must be replaced in time. About 7-10 days after planting, in order to promote the rapid growth of the peppers, top dressing should be carried out. This can be combined with tillage and weeding. You can apply decomposed farmyard manure and a small amount of urea.
