Requirements for growing mandarin oranges

Tangerine has a wide adaptability and is suitable for cultivation in the central and southern subtropical climate zones. It can generally bear fruit early and produce high yields when cultivated in mountains and plains. It is not cold-resistant and is best planted in areas above 0℃. Tangerine does not have high requirements for soil, but loose and slightly acidic soil is more suitable for the growth of Tangerine.

Growing environment of Maogu orange

Mandarin oranges are widely grown in Taiwan, mainly in the tropical areas north of Chiayi. The average annual temperature is 22-23 degrees, and the annual rainfall is 2200-2300 mm. Both the heat and precipitation are richer than those in Fujian's citrus producing areas. In recent years, they have also been introduced for cultivation in southern Fujian and Wuming District, Nanning City, Guangxi.

How to grow mandarin oranges

1. Choose the soil

The Maoya orange has strong adaptability, but is more suitable for growing in slightly acidic soil. It can be planted in soil with deep, loose, breathable and nutrient-rich soil. The soil needs to be prepared before planting, and the soil needs to be plowed and turned over to keep it permeable. Dig the tree pit in advance according to the size of the Maoya orange, apply base fertilizer in the pit to ensure good nutrition, and dig a drainage ditch next to it.

2. Pruning trees

Before planting Maoya oranges, the trees need to be properly pruned, the branches and leaves that affect the growth of the trees need to be cut off, and the branches and leaves need to be thinned out to reduce water evaporation. The roots underneath need to be pruned, rotten roots need to be cut off, and some of the overly dense roots need to be thinned out.

3. Planting

Plant the mandarin orange upright in the pit so that the roots can fully stretch out, fill it with soil, gently tamp it down, and then water the pit enough to help the roots take root. After planting, first pay attention to shade and avoid exposure to the sun, water regularly to keep the soil moist, and apply fertilizer regularly in the later stages of growth. Proper pruning is required during the young tree stage to promote fruiting.
