How to propagate the colorful ironwood? Cutting and layering propagation methods

Reproduction method of colorful iron

The common propagation methods of colorful iron are cutting propagation and layering propagation. It likes a warm growing environment and is best done in spring, specifically in May and June.

At this time, the temperature is generally stable at above 20 degrees, and the air humidity is relatively high. It is also the vigorous growth period of the seven-colored iron. The reproduction survival rate is relatively high at this time, and it can also be carried out when the temperature is suitable in autumn.

Common breeding methods of colorful iron

1. Colorful iron layering propagation

The colorful iron can be propagated by high-altitude layering, preferably in May and June. Select the main stem and peel it in a ring shape 20 cm from the top with a width of about 1 cm. Then cover it with moist moss and wrap the cut with plastic film. If you care for it carefully, it will take root in about 30-40 days.

2. Seven-color iron cutting propagation

The colorful iron plant is often propagated by cuttings. The best time is between June and October. Cut the top branches that grow well, with a length of 10-15 cm, trim the leaves at the base, and keep the upper 5-6 leaves. Insert them into a loose, fertile, well-drained substrate, keep the soil moist, and provide a semi-shaded, well-ventilated environment. It will take about 1 month for roots to grow and sprout.
