How to divide purple irises into pots and when and how to divide them

Time to divide purple irises

When caring for irises, they are usually repotted every two or three years. There are no strict requirements on the time. You can choose to repot in spring when the temperature is suitable for wound recovery and the survival rate is higher.

The correct way to divide purple irises

1. Choose potting soil

Before repotting, you must choose suitable potting soil. The size of the replacement pot should be appropriate. You need to choose a suitable pot according to the size of the flowers. It should be suitable for the growth requirements at the time. The soil should preferably be loose, fertile, well-drained alkaline soil. The soil and pots need to be dried and sterilized.

2. Remove the pot and prune the roots

Do not water the plant in the first few days of repotting. Then use a shovel to rotate the pot around to make it easier to remove it from the pot. You can then trim off any rotten or overly long roots.

3. Planting in pots

After everything is prepared, you can plant it in a pot. Prepare the soil and plant the irises. Water them thoroughly once and then place them in a well-ventilated, cool environment to slow down the seedling growth and promote recovery. After they grow normally, you can maintain them normally.

Purple iris division and repotting

First, you need to select healthy adult plants, place the pruning tools in potassium permanganate solution or wipe them with medical alcohol. When changing the soil, directly divide the plants, cut the tubers or break them open with your hands. There should be leaf buds on each plant, and apply wood ash on the wounds.

After the wound is slightly dry, move it to a pot for maintenance. The soil needs to have good drainage and a certain degree of air permeability. You can add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer. It needs to be placed on a well-ventilated balcony for maintenance. Do not place it in a dark environment to avoid wound infection and rot. When new leaves grow, you can maintain it normally.

Things to note when transplanting purple irises

1. After pruning the roots of purple irises, you can apply sulfur powder to the wounds and dry them in a well-ventilated place for 3-7 days. After the wounds heal, you can pot them. After potting, you can water them thoroughly, but the amount of watering should be reduced afterwards. After it grows normally, you can maintain it normally.

2. The soil for planting purple irises needs to be loose, fertile, alkaline soil, and the potting soil needs to be dried and sterilized in advance.

3. First put it in a cool and ventilated place to allow it to acclimate. It will take about a week. Under normal circumstances, it will be able to recover. If you repot it with the soil intact and do not damage the root system, but the leaves still wilt, it is either due to lack of water or root rot.
