What is the best soil for planting peonies? What is the best soil for planting peonies in pots?

Peony, with its large and colorful flowers, is a very precious flower. It has been a symbol of wealth and good fortune since ancient times. Peony has fleshy roots, likes sunlight and is afraid of waterlogging, so it is suitable to be planted in loose, well-drained soil.

Peony soil

Peonies like fertilizer. In addition to requiring fertile soil, they also require real-time topdressing. Peonies have fleshy roots, which are most afraid of waterlogging, so the soil must have good drainage. The soil suitable for the growth of fleshy roots must be loose and breathable.

Peonies are not suitable for growing in acidic soil, so neutral or slightly alkaline soil should be provided. Peonies should not be planted in sticky soil, which is not conducive to root growth. The soil should be disinfected before use to reduce virus infection of the roots.

Peony soil preparation method

1. Leaf mold + garden soil + river sand: Peonies can be made with leaf mold, garden soil and river sand, mixed in a ratio of 5:3:2. In the south, a little rice husk ash or wood ash must be added to ensure looseness and drainage, and excessive watering will prevent water accumulation.

2. Garden soil + manure + coarse sand: In addition to the above method, you can also mix garden soil, manure and coarse sand in equal proportions, so that the plants can grow vigorously in the later stage.

Peony soil replacement

Before changing the soil for peonies, you need to prepare suitable soil. You can use leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand, mixed in a ratio of 5:3:2. Before use, you need to expose it to the sun or spray it with carbendazim for disinfection to avoid bacteria in it that will affect the later growth of the peony.

After the soil is prepared, remove the peony from the pot, clean its roots, and then soak them in disinfectant for half an hour. You can add an appropriate amount of rooting powder to the disinfectant, then take it out to dry, remove the rotten and old roots, plant it in new potting soil, and place it in a cool area with wind.
