How to propagate geraniums with high survival rate? Which month is best for propagation?

Geranium is an ornamental plant that many people grow at home. It is more suitable for indoor cultivation, and it is relatively simple to maintain. It is often propagated by cuttings. This not only brings a higher survival rate, but also has the advantages of fast seedling growth and early flowering, and the operation is relatively simple and quick.

Geranium cutting time

It is best to propagate geranium cuttings in spring or autumn, as both seasons are the fastest growing seasons for geraniums, and the survival rate of cuttings is higher at this time . Be careful not to propagate cuttings in summer, as summer is the dormant period for geraniums, and it is difficult for cuttings to survive at this time, and the cuttings are prone to rot.

Geranium cutting method

1. Soil

You can directly use nutrient soil for cuttings. The soil must be well treated, with good air permeability and water permeability, and must be sterilized. You can add some carbendazim to the soil when watering to prevent fungi in the soil from causing fresh wounds to become infected and rotten.

2. Branches

Geranium cuttings can be tender branches or old branches, but branches with slightly higher hardness are easier to root. After pruning, cut off the lower leaves, soak in rooting liquid for one or two hours, and then insert the branches into the soil, about 2-3 cm.

Rooting geranium cuttings

After the geranium cuttings are completed, the surrounding soil should be gently compacted and placed in a cool, well-ventilated environment. The temperature should be maintained between 13-18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the cuttings to take root and sprout in about 15-20 days.
