Time to sow mugwort seeds

Mugwort is suitable for sowing in early spring from March to April, because these two time periods are the best temperature periods, neither cold nor hot, but very warm, and the seeds can germinate quickly.

Mugwort usually blooms between July and October every year, and the flowers are purple in color. However, there is no fixed time for it to bloom after planting. It is recommended to judge based on the climate environment and management methods. The growth rate of seedlings after sowing is relatively slow, and it takes two or three years to grow.

Artemisia argyi seeds sowing in summer

Most of our country's territory is in the temperature and subtropical zones of the northern hemisphere. The summer climate is characterized by bright sunshine, warm weather, abundant rainfall, sufficient soil fertility and high water content. It is not only the most suitable season for growing mugwort, but also the most suitable season for sowing most plants known in the world.

How to sow mugwort seeds

The planting method of mugwort is simple. When sowing, you can plant the seeds directly into the soil, cover the surface with 0.5 cm of fine soil, and finally pour some water on it. However, one thing to note is that the sowing distance each time should be forty to fifty centimeters.

1. Seed treatment before sowing

No matter when you sow, the mugwort seeds must be properly treated, such as soaking them in 20℃ warm water. The soaking time is generally about one day. The time should not be too long or too short. If the time is too long, the seeds will rot. If the time is too short, the seeds may not germinate.

However, in addition to soaking in warm water, it is also necessary to mix it with wet sand, and then spread some dry straw on the mixture of mugwort seeds and sand. Both steps are to keep the seeds moist and prevent the seeds from becoming inactive due to drying.

2. Germination after sowing

The first thing to do after sowing mugwort is to water it, so that the seeds can fully absorb water and then germinate and grow. Generally, it will germinate in about 7-10 days.

3. Management after seed germination

After the mugwort seeds germinate, the soil needs to be loosened and weeded to ensure the looseness of the soil and prevent weeds from competing for nutrients. Intertillage and weeding can be carried out in April. When the height of the seedlings is 20-30 cm, urea can be applied as a seedling fertilizer and applied on rainy days. After each harvest, decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied, appropriately supplemented with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
