What is the best fertilizer for broad beans?

Broad beans cannot be planted continuously . You should choose a plot that has not been planted with pea legumes for more than 2 years. In addition, broad beans are a crop that requires a lot of fertilizer, and its requirements for various fertility are different during each growth period. Below we will specifically introduce how to fertilize broad beans at different times.

Heavy application of basal fertilizer

Generally, 20-25 kg of superphosphate plus 2.5-10 kg of potassium fertilizer or 20-25 kg of superphosphate plus 500-800 kg of organic fertilizer is applied per mu as base fertilizer.

Usage : Sprinkle the fertilizer evenly on the bed surface, mix the soil and fertilizer thoroughly, rake and level it before sowing. Note that the seeds must not come into contact with the phosphorus fertilizer to avoid burning the bean sprouts.

Apply basal fertilizer or plant ash to the seedlings

After the seedlings have all grown, apply 100-150 kg of plant ash per mu to keep warm, prevent freezing and promote branching. For seedlings that lack basal fertilizer, are sown late, or have poor growth, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied as appropriate. Generally, 350-400 kg of organic fertilizer or 2-4 kg of standard fertilizer should be applied per mu .

Fertilization method : First use a hoe to dig furrows about 3 cm deep on the sunny side between the broad bean rows, then apply fertilizer and cover with soil.

Fertilize flowers and pods

The flowering and pod stage of broad beans is the period when they absorb the most fertilizer in their life. Generally, 500 kg of organic fertilizer is applied per mu.

Fertilization method : First dig a trench 3-6 cm away from the roots of the broad beans on the sunny side, 3-6 cm deep, and then apply fertilizer and cover with soil.

Fertilization time : In normal years and fields with average fertility, it is best to apply fertilizer during the peak flowering period. For fields with good growth and fertile soil, it is best to apply fertilizer during the peak flowering period. For fields with poor growth, late sowing, late germination, and small seedlings, it should be applied earlier to the early flowering period.

Additional molybdenum fertilizer

Foliar fertilizer for broad beans, mainly molybdenum fertilizer, is beneficial to reduce flower and pod drop, improve fruit set rate and increase grain weight.

Fertilization time : Application period is during the flowering period of broad beans.

Application method : Generally, use 50 grams of ammonium molybdate or sodium molybdate per mu, dissolve it in boiling water first. Then add 50 kilograms of water, choose a sunny day, after the dew has dried, spray it on the leaves with a sprayer. We can also use 0.1% ammonium molybdate or sodium molybdate solution to soak seeds for 24 hours, then dry them and sow them directly.

Can compound fertilizer be used to grow broad beans?

Compound fertilizer is needed for planting broad beans . Generally, base fertilizer is applied every year when broad beans are planted. 15 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer is applied per acre . Not only will the seedlings emerge uniformly, the seedlings will be strong and resistant to wind and cold, but they will also grow fast in spring.

For poor land, urea should be applied during the seedling stage of broad beans. This will promote the growth of seedlings, and early branching is conducive to flowering and pod formation. In addition, compound fertilizer and urea should be applied once each during the initial flowering stage and pod formation stage.
