How to propagate rainbow jade by leaf cuttings

How to propagate rainbow jade by leaf cuttings

Rainbow Jade is a succulent plant with strict requirements on soil. It needs to grow in loose, breathable soil with high organic matter content. The most common propagation method of Rainbow Jade is leaf cuttings, and stem cuttings can also be used.

Rainbow Jade Cutting Time

Rainbow Jade has no special requirements for the time of cutting. In an environment with suitable temperature, cuttings can be taken at any time of the year , usually in spring and autumn , when the cuttings or leaves are more likely to take root and have a higher survival rate.

How to propagate rainbow jade

1. Stem cutting method

There is no need to specially select stem cuttings. Use the branches cut off during normal pruning , cut them into stem segments of about 5 cm as stem cuttings, and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry the wounds, which will take about 3-5 days.

Just choose ordinary soil for cuttings. Spray water to wet the soil before cuttings, insert the cuttings into the soil, and do not allow water to accumulate in the soil. Wait for the cuttings to take root. During the waiting time, the leaves at the bottom of the cuttings may wilt due to water loss. This is normal and there is no need to worry.

2. Leaf cutting method

Pick healthy and intact leaves from the mother plant , and leave the wound to dry for 3-5 days. When the wound is slightly dry, lay it flat in the soil. It is best to mix some bamboo charcoal into the soil when cutting leaves to reduce the breeding of bacteria. Soon after the cuttings are cut, small fleshy plants will grow, and red aerial roots will appear. At this time, the aerial roots can be buried in the soil.

Maintenance of Rainbow Jade after Cutting

Do not water the leaves or stems of the rainbow jade before they take root after cuttings to prevent the leaves from rotting. Rainbow jade needs plenty of sunlight to grow. After cuttings, it needs to be moved to a sunny place for maintenance . After the soil is dry, it needs a small amount of watering.
