When is the best time to take cuttings of jasmine?

When is the best time to take cuttings of jasmine?

Jasmine cutting time

Jasmine cuttings do not require a lot of time, and can generally be carried out from April to October. The survival rate of cuttings in July and August in autumn is the highest. It is not recommended to carry out cuttings in winter.

Jasmine cutting method and steps

1. Select cuttings

For jasmine cuttings, choose new branches grown in the current year, with more than two pairs of buds on them, about 10-15 cm in length. The incision should be close to the node and should be cut into an inclined surface to prevent water accumulation and rot.

2. Pot soil preparation

Jasmine likes loose, water-permeable, slightly acidic soil with good air permeability. It can be prepared with garden soil, compost soil, river sand, and rice husk ash.

3. Take cuttings

Insert the cutting into the soil with the bud end facing upwards. After straightening it, gently compact the surrounding soil with your hands to make the soil fit better, which will make it easier for the plant to take root and survive.

Maintenance matters after jasmine cuttings

It is best not to apply fertilizer to jasmine after cuttings and before it takes root, otherwise it will easily cause the cuttings to rot. The soil in the pot should be kept moist at ordinary times. Move it indoors on rainy days to prevent the cuttings from being exposed to rain and causing them to rot. If properly maintained, the cuttings will take root in about three weeks.
